Based on the analysis, the external gear pump received the highest score of 34, which allowed us to focus on the external gear pumps. In addition, we were closely focused on positive-displacement pumps, as they are self-priming (according to the Advanced Manufacturing Challenge, the pump is required to be self-priming). Other pump designs, such as the centrifugal pump listed in the table, did not have self-priming capabilities and thus did not fit the needs of the challenge.
